Film
Intensive
Four full-day sessions — Sundays, January 4, 11, 18, and 25 from 10 AM to 6 PM.
At the Cottonwood Center for the Arts in Colorado Springs, CO.
As much as it is an art, film is a business—and it is a comprehensive understanding of the latter that separates the successful filmmaker from the talented hobbyist. In this four-day intensive, the Independent Film Society of Colorado has partnered with 23-year Hollywood veteran Evan Alderson to bridge the gap between art and industry, giving you the tools and strategies to confidently develop, finance, produce and distribute ultra-low budget to multi-million dollar feature films. This is not a theory-based course, nor is it a proprietary, guru-style method for success. It is a clear, in-depth breakdown of how the industry actually functions—a step-by-step guide for how real producers take a project from script to screen to sale.
WHAT YOU'LL LEARN
How to develop or option a marketable script
The logic behind film budgets, schedules and “dead zones”
Eight proven strategies to finance hundred-thousand to multi-million dollar budgets
How to approach, attach and leverage “name” actors
How to hire and manage a crew like a professional producer
Marketing, selling and distributing your film in today’s cutthroat market
The common pitfalls and hard truths of the movie business
This industry-level training program condenses the essential knowledge of a four-year film school (and beyond) into a no-nonsense roadmap for independent success. You’ll leave with a clear, repeatable system for producing profitable independent films.
Evan Alderson is an award-winning Hollywood filmmaker with more than two decades of experience across the studio, independent, and commercial worlds. After leaving Paramount Pictures and relocating to Colorado in 2020, Alderson has become an active force in shaping the state’s growing film ecosystem—sharing real-world industry knowledge with local filmmakers and collaborating with government partners to expand production opportunities in the region. He continues to develop original projects including his upcoming feature, Devil in the Trunk, and remains committed to empowering Colorado filmmakers with the tools, strategies, and insider perspective needed to bring large-scale production to the state.
